From the filing date of a patent application, the applicant has one year to extend the initial patent application beyond the territory of origin.
This deadline is firm and cannot be extended.
Once this period has expired, it is no longer possible to protect the same patent application in other countries.
This period is called the priority period.
For trademarks and designs, this period is six months from the date of the first filing.
